Privet/Snovuyim Godom!

30 December the Telets restaurant was buried in an avalanche of
cheerful employees of the Virginia Travel Agency/Introduction Agency,
along with their husbands, wives, boyfriends, and no small number of
American men - (some experiencing the phenomenon that is Yoshkar-Ola for the
first time). The banquet tables were elegantly laid out as we
opened the evening with a spirited reading of prose by Pushkin, and
soon the champagne, juice, wine and warm conversation were flowing
freely. Fresh vegetables, sumptuous salads, and too many tasty dishes
to remember or mention were served up one after another-passed around
in generous portions with smiles to match!

Soon, the festivities escalated more upon the entrance of Father Frost, and his
granddaughter, the Snow Maiden...there were some small gifts given and
some lively games and amusing contests. The room filled with laughter
over and over as he circulated among the banquet tables bearing a
platter full of slips of paper, for on each slip was typewritten an
amusing fate or adventure which should await the "lucky" individual to
draw it from the tray. Out of respect for those who may have fulfilled
their fate before the end of the night- no specifics will be
shared! Some long absent visitors included <cut> from <cut>, Wayne
Johnson and wife Tatiana (former translator for Virginia) and everyone's
favourite brewtown cowboy, Robert!

It cannot be said whose faces
glowed the most brightly - the men seated with their favorite ladies - the
ladies with their long-awaited men, or any non-Aussie foolish enough
to do vodka shots with Tatiana Johnson... but the party did not end
before more than two hours of joyous dancing, group songs, and
several people trying their solo voices at the karaoke microphone.
Judge's ratings of these performances were not available at press
time... For some, the party ended at Telets, while others made their
way through 8-10 inches of new-fallen snow to the Pharaon discotheque,
bottles of champagne {and or vodka} still allegedly clutched in some
hands! After the disco closed, [[[CENSORED]]]...and Everybody went home snug
and happy, with high hopes for the New Year to come.

Best wishes from Yoshkar Ola and correspondent Andrew (justinian36@) to all!
