You may say to your lady that you stopped correspondence with all other ladies, that you will correspond only with her and will come only to her and that you expect the same from her: she may ask the agency (in a written form) to remove her from our catalog and to post her name in the Commitments Column. It is a very serious step for the woman. Her initial fee is not given back and other men will not write to her any more. It proves her sincerity. If you believe that your intentions are serious, you may write good wish letters to all other ladies and to make a proposal to your One and Only.
You might ask yourself, "Why does Maxim's agency have such a formal procedure for men and women who wish to correspond exclusively with one another?" To a foreigner, it seems a little old-fashioned, like "going steady" in high school. You remember how nice that was... Given the way many dating agencies operate, it does not seem to make financial sense.
Think of the structure of this agency. They do not make money selling addresses like so many others. They barely make money from the fees women pay to be listed on the site. Their "bread and butter" comes from men who pay to correspond with women using email and translation services. They sell roses and small gifts. (And by the way, their roses are nicer and less expensive than those I can buy at home.) The agency pays for email from men who have no intention of coming to Russia or spending anything on writing. (That's the "free" in "free agency.") I am sure they receive dozens of vulgar, insolent letters that all add to their overhead.
So, if a woman is truly interested in you, and you in her, it makes sense for Maksim to offer you the chance at an "exclusive". It gives other women a better chance at a relationship, because it is a sad fact that a few women enjoy a majority of the attention. If your lady is serious about you, it will be a real relief for her to hear this question. And it's obvious why a man would want a woman committed to him alone!
As with most things, if you want to ask her this, take some time and think it over. Do you seriously intend to visit her in Russia? Have you written a good wish letter to the women that you are no longer interested in writing to from this or any other agency? Do you feel that she's the One?
